Everyone is posting home workouts online at the moment – including us! It is now more important than ever to get moving as much as possible in any way you can, and that includes home workouts. In this blog, we are going to go through how to structure exercise into your daily quarantine routine, and what you should be doing, but first, a quick update on where Sterling Fitness stands at the moment.
The current advice (at time of writing) is that we are allowed to go outside for 1 form of exercise per day. This can be a run or a walk, but NOT an outdoor PT session, Bootcamp or sports training session. We decided to stop training clients before this came into force as we believed it was the right thing to do, but being a Personal Training company, this puts us in a difficult position. We can no longer train our clients face to face, and rightly so, so we have had to get creative! We are fortunate to have built up an online client base prior to this pandemic and we have experience training many online clients, so this means our transition into all sessions being based online has been smooth.
In all the confusion, we thought it would be best to put all of our thoughts and actions around the current situation into one blog post so that all our information is in one place, as we are receiving so many questions and queries. I have broken down this information into sections that we are being frequently asked about:
Face To Face Sessions
Sterling Fitness will be returning to face to face sessions as soon as it is safe to do so, however for now we are not providing this service. Once it is safe to do so, we will be providing outdoor sessions if gyms remain unopened.
Until then, we can provide Skype sessions for people at home or in their gardens. You may have some equipment or none at all, but all that matters is that you have a small space to move and Skype! The sessions are exactly like normal PT sessions, just home based and we will be on a screen instead of in person.
If you are interested in this style of Personal Training, please get in touch. (Note, this means that wherever you are in the world you can benefit from a Skype session – not just Canterbury based!)
Bootcamp WILL be returning. We had plans to launch this summer bigger and better than ever, so if we can, we will!
As soon as we are able to, Bootcamp will be back, so keep your eyes peeled for any announcements!
Online PT is proving hugely popular for obvious reasons. It is a cost effective way to train at home properly, rather than just jumping around your living room and doing HIIT workouts daily.
We give our clients an individual program based on our professional knowledge, which allows our clients to train smart and achieve the right outcomes.

You may have seen our Facebook Live workouts recently. These are happening every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am. The thinking behind these was that we wanted to provide something free and fun, and hopefully get people moving. These workouts are different every time, and we hope that they continue to grow in popularity.
However, if you are looking for specific programming and individual workouts, they are not for you. Online Training is the way to go for this.
So, hopefully that answers questions about what exactly we can provide at the moment, and we hope that we have catered for absolutely everyone. Back to the home workouts!
If none of the options we have given are for you, you may be devising your own home workouts. This is great, but there are a number of points to remember. To make it more simple, we have come up with our top tips for working out at home.
PLAN. This is so important to avoid jumping round like a lunatic doing nothing but squat jumps every day. Work on a proper schedule and split your workouts up so you have a balanced approach.
Make a routine! We have had lots of questions about staying motivated at home, and making exercise a non negotiable part of your daily routine can really help. Set a time (first thing is great) and make that your hour to yourself to workout, just as you would in the gym.
Allocate a room/garage/part of a room that is for working out only. Make sure you have access to music there too! If you relax on your sofa, it’s very difficult to then switch into workout mode in the same place, so try and make it somewhere different.
Get outside! While we still can, USE your one form of outdoor exercise and go for a walk/run. This is especially great for your mind as well as your body, and you can even use your run as a warm up before your workout at home.
Warm up and cooldown fully. Just because you’re at home, doesn’t mean you can skip these!
Set yourself a quarantine target. Never been able to do full push ups? Make it your goal for when this is all over.
Work on your weaknesses. Just because we can’t lift heavy, it doesn’t mean we can’t improve. This gives us a great chance to work on mobility, stretching, core, diet, sleep, hydration and so on.
Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t want to workout. Even if it seems like everyone else is, it’s a very strange time right now so just do what feels best for you.
Add variety. Make your workouts fun and interesting! Google some bodyweight exercises or get in touch with us for ideas.
